Types of Funds

Donor Advised Fund (DAF)
Flexible and Easy Giving

A DAF is your centralized space for community giving. Donations are made to the fund when you prefer and then you choose annually how you want to support the causes that matter to you. Donors may choose a specific purpose or impact area, favourite registered Canadian charities, or any of the Foundation’s charitable causes that touch your heart. You can also draw on the expertise of our Grants Committee to help with your grant decisions along the way. Donor Advised Funds are a lower cost, lower administrative option than a private foundation.
Think of it as a bank account for philanthropy.

Today & Tomorrow Fund
Active Giving Today, a Legacy for Tomorrow

This fund option appeals to those who want a high degree of flexibility and involvement in their current giving while continuing to build a platform for long-term permanent gifts.

A flexible fund and permanent fund are paired with a common purpose and fund agreement. Over time the permanent fund builds, and the flexible fund is retired.

Permanent/Endowment Fund – Forever Giving

Some donors are looking for the best way to leverage their donations for sustainable year- after-year impact. This perpetual giving is called an endowment or permanent fund and is a popular choice for many donors in our communities.

Through consultation we ensure donors can establish the structure that best suites them. Options include designating support to a specific charity or group of charities each year, or the donor may choose what specific impact areas they would like to address year by year, and still others leverage the expertise of the Community Foundation to select charities that will have significant community impact.

Agency Fund

For registered charities, permanent funds provide a sustainable source of revenue back to the organization through annual distributions based on income.

An added benefit is that the organization can focus on building the endowment through donations and planned giving while NSCF manages the administration and investments to provide an enduring granting stream.

Agency funds also enhance donor confidence that a gift to the charity will be managed professionally and will be available to provide support in perpetuity.

Scholarship Fund – Support Youth

May be established by individuals, families, or organizations. Grants are directed from the fund to support students directly in their educational pursuits. We can help you determine eligibility criteria to meet your desired outcomes. Funds are directed to the certified educational institutions.

Community Fund (Unrestricted)
Dynamic Community Support

Grants from your fund are determined by our grants committee to support the most pressing needs of our community, including future needs that often cannot be anticipated at the time a fund is established.

Land Acknowledgement

The North Shore Community Foundation humbly recognizes that we operate on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Squamish Nation (Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw) and Tsleil-Waututh Nation (səlilwətaɬ).  We pay our respects and extend our gratitude to the Indigenous peoples who have stewarded these lands through generations. We are dedicated to creating community impact and nurturing relationships that contribute to meaningful Reconciliation.

We pledge to collaborate with Indigenous communities to build a future that honours and commemorates their history, culture, and contributions. Our initiatives are designed to create a lasting influence that fosters Reconciliation and fortifies the ties within our collective community.
