Giving

The North Shore Community Foundation is a link between donors and those receiving grants.  We receive gifts and place them in ongoing or newly-formed endowment funds that are held in perpetuity.  The funds (see Our Funds) are pooled into a professionally managed portfolio to maximize potential income and minimize administrative expenses.  The net income from these funds is distributed annually through North Shore not-for-profit organizations and scholarships.  We have a current capital of $1.3 million (2008), with annual grants in excess of $60,000 (2008).

Why give to the North Shore Community Foundation

The Foundation provides an opportunity for you to give back to your community and at the same time support areas in our North Shore that mean the most to you.  Our funds include support of children, youth, students, seniors, heritage projects, artists, athletes, libraries and domestic animals.  Your donation could be added to one of our existing fund (Our Funds) or there are an infinite variety of needs that could form the basis for a new fund.

Our administrative costs are very low so you know your donation goes directly towards community needs.  To cover the Foundation’s costs, funds are charged a minimal annual fee, usually a percentage of earned income.  This percentage varies depending on the complexity of the fund and the long term management requirements.

You don’t have to be wealthy to make a donation.  We can accept a gift of any size to add to our existing funds.  We accept cash, securities, property or life insurance policies as gifts, either now or though a Will or Trust (see What to Give).  If you would like to make a cash donation, please see our Donations Form or, if you would prefer to use a credit card to pay for your gift, click on the Canada Helps Logo.

To start a new fund we need a minimum donation of $10,000, received as a lump sum or in instalments over a period of time.  The fund can be tailored to your specific interests and wishes.  Please Contact Us for assistance.

All donors will receive an official receipt that is tax deductible within the limitations of the Canada Revenue Agency rules and regulations.
