s About Us

The North Shore Community Foundation was created in 1988 in response to community needs. A group of citizens from a wide range of backgrounds banded together to create a true community foundation.

The Foundation has grown from a balance sheet value of a few hundred dollars in 1988 to a current capital of over $1.8 million (2009) in 22 funds. The Foundation continues to grow and become a significant player in the North Shore communities, currently granting about $60,000 annually to not-for-profit organizations and scholarships in North & West Vancouver, Bowen Island and Lions Bay.

Mission Statement

To accumulate permanent capital from donors in order to fund activities which improve the quality of life for residents on the North Shore.

Goals

We have set a target for capital funds at $5 million by 2014. These funds will create a critical mass of capital which will enable the Foundation to make grants in excess of $200,000 per year.

The goals of the Foundation:

1. To provide an effective means for people and organizations to preserve capital for the net benefit of the community through donations to existing funds or by starting a new fund.

2. To support worthwhile projects throughout the non profit community through our granting process.

Our Board

The North Shore Community Foundation is a volunteer organization. The Directors and a group of dedicated volunteers undertake all activities for the Foundation; which keeps our overhead very low. Occasionally the Foundation hires contractors for specific projects.

The Board of Directors meet monthly and the various committees meet as required. The annual general meeting is held in September of each year. See our Calendar for the specific date. Our Annual Report can be downloaded as a PDF file.
