Welcome

Established in 1988, the North Shore Community Foundation serves the geographic areas of North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Bowen Island and Lions Bay.  The Foundation was created in response to community needs.  To date the Foundation has contributed in excess of $500,000 in support of over 400 community project and scholarships throughout the North Shore.

The Foundation’s core purposes are to:

1. professionally manage trust funds and endowment funds

2. distribute the net income from each fund by grants within the North Shore community.

The Foundation has grown from a balance sheet value of a few hundred dollars in 1988 to a current capital of over $2.0 million (2011) in 22 funds. We are incorporated under the Societies Act of British Columbia and are registered as a Charitable Organization with the Canada Revenue Agency.

Celebrating a Community Champion!

The North Shore Community Foundation is thrilled that one of its founding members, Sheila Gilmour, has been honoured with a B.C. Community Achievement Award.  The Awards recognize British Columbians who have shown outstanding levels of dedication to their communities.

For more than fifty years, Sheila has made significant contributions to her community of North Vancouver.  She was a founding member not only of the NSCF, but also of the Lionsview Seniors’ Planning Society.  She was also instrumental in the establishment of the forerunner to the North Shore Disability Resource Centre, and volunteered with the Capilano Community Services Society, where she was the society’s first co-ordinator.

Sheila is one of just five North Shore residents, and 36 British Columbians in total, who are honoured with the 2011 awards.  “Each of these people has a remarkable record of enhancing the quality of life of residents throughout the province,” says Premier Christy Clark.  “Their work stands as a beacon to selfless community service, and our lives are richer for it.”

The North Shore Community Foundation is certainly richer for Sheila’s contribution to our organization, and we join the B.C. Achievement Foundation in saying “Congratulations, Sheila!”
